Listening LISTENING 01 Seeing Dr Smith
Ellen is sick. Her mother Roberta takes her to see Dr Smith.
Dr Smith:
Hello, Ellen. What's wrong with you?
Ellen:
I'm sick.
Dr Smith: How long have you been sick?
Ellen: Um….for one day. How long have I been sick, Mummy?
Roberta: That's right. Since yesterday. She has a fever and she doesn't feel well.
Dr Smith: All right. Where does it hurt, Ellen?
Ellen: My head hurts and my throat too. And I'm itchy.
Dr Smith: Do you feel hot?
Ellen: Yes, really hot.
Dr Smith: OK. I'll take your temperature….Hmmm. It's high. Can you swallow?
Ellen: No. It hurts.
Dr Smith: Let me see your back and your stomach.
Ellen: Ooooh! That feels cold.
Dr Smith: Sorry, Ellen. Oh look! You've got a red rash. You've got measles.
Roberta: Oh no! Natasha had measles a few weeks ago.
Dr Smith: Well then, you know what to do. She must rest and drink a lot.
Ellen: Can I have lemonade, Dr Smith?
Dr Smith: Of course you can, Ellen. And you have to take these tablets.
Roberta: How many should she take? And how often?
Dr Smith: She should take one tablet three times a day.
Roberta: About every five hours?
Dr Smith: That's right, before meals. She can take them with her lemonade.
Ellen: Thanks, Dr Smith.
Roberta: Yes, thanks Dr Smith.
