Maria:
Morning Philip. Are you going
out?
Philip:
No, I'm coming home. I just
took my grandson to school. He loves school. Not like me. You
know, I hated school.
Maria:
Why did you hate it?
Philip:
Well, for me, it was boring.
I didn't like sitting still for a long time. I preferred to
do things, to use my hands. I only liked craft and sport.
Maria:
Yes, I know what you mean.
But I loved school. My school days were the best days of my
life.
Philip:
Really?
Maria:
Yes, I think I was lucky because
I had good teachers. They made school interesting for me. Did
you have good teachers?
Philip:
No, not really. I remember
getting into trouble a lot but I don't remember learning much.
I was naughty but I wasn't stupid. I didn't want to be there.
Maria:
What did you do that was naughty?
Philip:
Oh I talked a lot and I often
didn't go to school at all. I remember, when I was in my last
year of primary school, one of my teachers came to my house
to talk to my parents. They weren't very happy.
Maria:
Oh, I never missed a day of
school.
Philip:
Uh huh. What was your favourite
subject?
Maria:
Um, Science but I also really
liked History and Sport. I was hardworking at school because
I loved learning.
Philip:
Did you have a lot of friends
at school?
Maria:
Oh, a few. I wasn't popular
because I was quiet and shy. What about you?
Philip:
That was the best thing about
school for me - I had a lot of friends. I remember when I finished
school, I missed my friends a lot.
Maria:
Yes I did too. But I went
to university with my best friend.
Philip:
Oh, what did you study at
university?
Maria:
Education. I studied it for
four years. After that I wanted a break from studying. But then
I did an English course.
Philip:
And what did you do after
the English course?
Maria:
I came here and started studying
again. What did you do after you finished school?
Philip:
Oh, I helped my father in
his carpentry business.
Maria:
Did you study woodwork after
you finished school?
Philip:
No. I learnt on the job. So,
do you still love studying, Maria?
Maria:
Yes. Now I want to learn to
be a swimming teacher. I'm looking for a good course at the
moment. I'm going to get some information this morning. I should
go. Nice to talk to you, Philip.
Philip:
Okay, see you Maria. Have
a good day.
Maria:
Thanks, you too. Bye.
