Maria goes to Philip's house.
Maria:
Hi Philip! How are you? …What are you making?
Philip:
Hi Maria!…Um…I'm making a table.
Maria: That's great! You're very good at carpentry. How did you learn that?
Philip: I learned it in my father's carpentry business.
Maria: Oh, right …Did it take you a long time to learn?
Philip: Yes, it did! I remember my first table! It was TERRIBLE! But I practised a lot and I improved…Did you find out about your swimming instructor course?
Maria: Yes. They have a basic course at the City Swimschool. It's in the classroom and later we go to the pool.
Philip: Do you like studying in a classroom?
Maria: Yes! I think it's a good way to learn! That's why I always loved school. I know you hated school, Philip!
Philip: Yeah, I'm a very practical person. I don't like books - I like to use my hands.…When did you learn to swim, Maria?
Maria: Well, I could swim when I was five. My auntie taught me.
Philip: Were you scared? How did she teach you?
Maria: Um I was VERY scared because I didn't know how to breathe in the water…so she showed me first - she swam up and down the pool and I watched her. …And then I tried.
Philip: Oh! That's interesting. I'm different. I like to try things myself first!
Maria: Really? Are you good at sports?
Philip: Yes, pretty good. I'm good at cricket and football. I can play golf quite well too. And I know how to play baseball. But I'm hopeless at tennis! I never win!
Maria: I'm hopeless at tennis too!
Philip: Are you good at sports, Maria?
Maria: Yeah, I'm pretty good too. I'm good at basketball and volleyball. And I'm really good at swimming!!
