Listening LISTENING 01 What do you think?
Pedro, Eddie and Linh are talking at the party
Eddie:
Linh, have you met Pedro yet?
Linh:
Err, no I haven't. It's nice to meet you. I've seen you around the flats.
Pedro: Nice to meet you too.
Eddie: So, how is the new flat going?
Pedro: Oh I really like it. Everyone is so nice here! I used to live in a house but I like this much better.
Eddie: Yes, I love living in a flat too. You don't have to look after a garden and it's much cheaper.
Linh: Oh I'm not so sure. Our flat is so small and sometimes it gets quite noisy here.
Pedro: Noisy? Oh, yes you're probably right. I don't really mind. In my country everyone is noisy.
Linh: You come from Chile, don't you?
Pedro: Yes, that's right.
Linh: How long have you been here?
Pedro: Mmm, about six months.
Linh: Oh, your English is very good!
Pedro: Oh, thanks, but I still have a lot to learn.
Linh: It's lucky that you're here. I think it must be much easier to learn English here than in your country.
Pedro: It sure is! I don't really believe learning grammar in a classroom is important.
Eddie: Oh, why do you say that?
Pedro: Because I think learning new words is much more important. You need vocabulary to talk to people. Don't you agree?
Eddie: Mmm, I wouldn't say that. I learnt French at school and the grammar was very important. It was very useful when we went to Paris for our honeymoon too. Wasn't it Linh?
Linh: Well, yes, but I think you've both got a point.
Pedro: Oh hi guys. This is Eddie and Linh, they live next door. This is Carlos and Sylvia.
Eddie: Hi, nice to meet you. Do you play in Pedro's band?
Carlos: Yes we do.
Eddie: So, are you going to play something for us tonight?
Sylvia: Yes, of course.
