our mayor, Mr Barry Baskett, here today to tell us about the
new sports centre. Welcome Mr Baskett.

Thanks Reg, it's

So, Mr Baskett,
the council has approved the new sports centre at last. Can
you tell us what that will mean for the community of New Town?
|

Mr
Baskett:
|
Well, I think
it'll be great for the community, Reg, especially for our young
people. The children will be able to start their training much
sooner now, because we will have the best facilities and trainers
right here.

Reg:
|
That should make
a big difference to a lot of people. Could you remind our viewers
of the facilities that will be available? I believe there will
be an outdoor swimming pool, won't there? Will it be heated?
|

Mr
Baskett:
|
Yes Reg, that's
right, a 50 metre heated pool, so now New Town will be able
to hold official competitions at last. That will bring a lot
of visitors here and more money into the community. There will
also be a gym, and basketball and tennis courts.

Baskett:

It will be great
for young people. Instead of feeling bored, they can get involved
in healthy activities. They especially love basketball, you
know.

That's very true
Mr Baskett. Basketball is really popular nowadays. And when
will the building begin? Won't it take a long time to get started?
|

Baskett:

No Reg, the builder
is ready to start at once. I plan to start building next week.
And we are planning to open in six months' time.

Won't this be
very expensive?
|

Baskett:

In the beginning
it will, Reg, but we plan to cover costs in three years.
