UNIT 03 Be careful TOPIC 04 A hospital visit
Listening LISTENING 03 A hospital visit - part 2
Mathew and Sophie visit Petrina Harris, the victim of the mugging, and find out about her injuries.
Mathew:
There she is!
Sophie:
Hello, Petrina. I'm Sophie, and this is my husband, Mathew. You don't know us, but we're the people who saw you getting mugged. We saw it all from the window of our flat and called the ambulance and the police.
Petrina: Well, hello. It's so nice of you to come. I can't tell you how grateful I am for what you both did!
Mathew: That's OK, we were glad we could do something to help. We've been worried about you and wanted to see if you were OK. You had a terrible fall!
Petrina: I'm OK now, just a bit bruised and shaken. The doctor was worried about my head, and I've been having a few tests, just to make sure there's no serious damage.
Sophie: Oh, that's a relief, I'm so glad! But your face! Isn't it sore?
Petrina: Yes, it is a bit sore! But I feel so stupid. I should have known better than to walk alone in that street at night.
Sophie: Oh, Petrina, don't be too hard on yourself! That street is safe most of the time, and it was only just dark. How could you have known what would happen?
Mathew: Yes, Petrina, it's usually a very quiet and safe street. Nothing like that has happened there before.
Petrina: And I shouldn't have struggled for my bag, either. How stupid!
Sophie: Oh, don't worry so much! It's natural to try and hang on. It was just your bad luck that it happened at all. You were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Petrina: I certainly was! Oh well, I've learned my lesson. Anyway, I want to say thank you again.
Sophie: No worries, Petrina. We were very glad we could do something.
Petrina: And thanks for coming to visit me, too. I feel so much better now after talking to you.
Mathew: Well, we'll go now and let you get some rest. Bye, Petrina.
Sophie: Yes, bye Petrina, and take care, OK?
Petrina: Bye, Sophie. Bye, Mathew. Thanks again.
Mathew: Well. She seems OK. She was lucky she wasn't more badly injured, though.
Sophie: Yes, I agree. She had a lucky escape, when you think what could have happened. She could have had permanent brain damage after that fall.
Mathew: I'm a bit worried myself now, actually. You know I often get home in the dark.
Sophie: Yes, I know. You had better be more careful from now on, hadn't you?
Mathew: I certainly will! And if someone wants my wallet, they're welcome to it! I don't want to end up in hospital!
