	WRITING 04 Gerunds

In the first exercise you will focus on the first reason for using gerunds, as the subject of a verb, clause or sentence.

1	Look at the sentences.
2	Now rewrite the sentence using the verb in bold as a gerund. Click on Show Me to find out how.

1	It is very hard to quit smoking.
2	When you are an athlete it is important to train hard.
3	It has always been my dream to live in Paris for a year.
4	It's better to eat lots of fruit and vegetables than to take vitamins.

In the second exercise you will look at all four reasons for using gerunds.

1	Read the sentences.
2	Look at the four ways we use gerunds again.
3	Decide how the gerund has been used.
4	Type out sentences 2 to 8 again.
5	Put the number 1, 2, 3 or 4 next to each sentence, to show how the gerund was used. The first one has been done as an example.

2	Being famous has a lot of disadvantages.
