General English Level 6 V 3
UNIT 04 The unexplained TOPIC 02 Is there anybody out there?
Speaking SPEAKING 06 Emphasis in spoken language
In English we emphasise some words when we speak.

Listen to Alex and Bert again. Listen for the words they emphasise.

When we speak we put emphasis or stress on some important words. This helps us to get our message across to the other person. The emphasised words are usually nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs - the words that carry the information in the sentence.
