	LANGUAGE FOCUS 04 As if and as though

Jake says:
	I felt this really strange sensation, as though someone was watching me.

Jake uses " as though someone was watching me" to help the listeners understand better how he was feeling.

" As though someone was watching me" is an adverbial clause of manner. Adverbial clauses of manner are often used with verbs describing the senses.

It	sounded	as if as though	somebody was trying to open the door.
	felt		there was someone in the room.
	looked		no-one had lived in the house for a long time.
	tasted		the meat had been cooked for too long.
	smelt		if the place had never been cleaned.
